Editor's Note: When we planned our 20 year reunion in the summer of 1999, our goal for this project was to uplift and encourage the families of our classmates and let them know that West High's Class of 1979 will remember their loved one as our friend!
The task of finding and contacting families began in January, 1999. It was soon obvious that the families wanted us to not only remember those classmates that had passed away, but they wanted us to know them a little better. Parents (and siblings) were open and willing to provide pictures and information about the deaths of their loved ones. In fact, the one common denominator in each situation was that the families we were able to contact seemed genuinely pleased that we were doing this project. They wanted us to know that we should "not be afraid to talk about and share our memories of our friends". One family member said, "Families members never forget, although the pain will lessen over time. We are thrilled that you haven't forgotten, either!"
What began as a difficult task had actually become a very rewarding experience. My heart was truly touched by this project. It is my hope that each member of the Class of 1979 who reads these pages will be as touched by the lives and deaths of these men and women as I was by meeting and talking with their families.
Several times since the 20 year reunion, we have had to add names to our Memorial Page. We want each of the families to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We promise never to forget! God bless you and thank you for making this page possible!
